Bishop Gennady took part in a meeting of the Inter-Council Presence commission on issues of public life, culture, science and information

On April 10, 2024, a meeting of the Commission of the Inter-Council Presence on Issues of Public Life, Culture, Science and Information was held in a remote format.

Bishop Gennady of Kaskelen, manager of the affairs of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District, took part in the meeting.

The meeting of the Commission was opened by the Chairman of the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Kliment of Kaluga and Borovsk, who presented the agenda of the event and the main speakers.

Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Laboratory of Religious Studies “North-West” of the I. Kant Baltic Federal University R.V. Shizhensky gave a presentation on the main directions of neo-paganism in Russia, noting the challenges and threats this phenomenon poses.

Bishop Feoktist of Pereslavl and Uglich spoke about the activities of the working group on artificial intelligence issues. After this, the chairman of the information commission under the Diocesan Council of the city of Moscow, priest Alexander Volkov, announced the development of a plan for a document dedicated to the Church’s attitude to modern digital technologies associated with the use of neural networks, chat bots and other devices.

The Secretary of the Synodal Commission on Bioethics, Archpriest Alexander Abramov, spoke on the topic: “The Christian worldview and modern challenges of scientific and technological development,” touching on the problem of interaction between the clergy and the scientific community.

Executive Secretary of the Expert Council “Economics and Ethics” under the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' P.A. Shashkin presented an updated version of the document “Economy in the context of globalization - an Orthodox ethical view.”

Bishop Gennady of Kaskelen spoke about the final stage of work on the document “Relationships between the Russian Orthodox Church and the museum community.”

During the meeting, a discussion of the reports was held, and a number of events were planned with the participation of invited experts for the subsequent development of thematic areas related to the problems of artificial intelligence, globalization and neo-paganism.
